Forclaz Rain overtrousers protect the lower half of your body for a complete and effective rain protection system for your mountain outings. Care products: waterproofing spray or liquid in the machine To renew the fabric's water repellent properties and optimise performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.
    8. Waterproof component
We measure the resistance of a fabric to a water pressure expressed in mm of the water column (test based on the standard ISO 811). The higher the pressure, the more the fabric is waterproof. Components scoring 2000 mm can resist the pressure from 2000 mm of water (which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting two hours).
    9. Garment waterproofing
This garment has been shower-tested using 100 litres of water/sqm/hour for 3 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a violent storm in the mountains.
    10. Component breathability
In addition to breathable fabrics, Quechua develops technical solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of its trekking jackets and overtrousers (Forclaz, Bionnassay and Helium lines). These ventilation systems allow you to regulate the temperature inside the garment and also to facilitate the transfer of perspiration generated by the body during physical effort.
    11. Component with coating or a membrane
Like a layer of "paint" applied on the underside of the fabric to make it waterproof while remaining breathable. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection. The membrane is like a very fine plastic film (polyurethane) making the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It has the advantage of being more supple, lightweight, durable and often more breathable than the coating.
    12. Consists of 3, 2 or 2.5 layers
3 layers: the membrane is bonded to an inner and outer layer of the component. This construction helps the membrane last longer and boosts the component's performance. 2 layers: the membrane is only bonded to the outer layer, the inner protective lining is free. This construction costs less but is generally more cumbersome. 2.5 layers: the membrane has inner protection with a kind of varnish coating rather than an actual layer to make it as lightweight as possible
    13. Water repellent component
A fabric is water repellent when it allows water slide over its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. The fabric is made water repellent by treating its outer surface. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every three washes). All Quechua waterproof jackets have received water-repellent treatment.
    14. Comparative note on the environmental impact of products
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over the product's complete lifespan according to various indicators. A general mark ABCDE is given to help you easily identify products with the best environmental performance by comparing similar products to each other (t-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc). Decathlon's environmental display approach is voluntary. For more information, visit:
    15. A score for comparing products' environmental impact
The product's environmental impact is calculated across its entire life cycle using different indicators. An overall ABCDE score is attributed to help you more readily identify the products with the best environmental performance by comparing the same type of product (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.). Decathlon is committed to visually displaying environmental information. For more information visit:

    • Excellent Jacket

      Jonathan (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
I use this jacket for playing tennis outdoors in the winter, cycling and running. The elasticity in the material provides a lot flexibility when doing sports and the under arm zips ensure you don't get too hot. I haven't been out in torrential rain but it has kept me dry in a medium downpour. It is well made, good value and significantly better than a Berghaus I had to return recently.
    • Compact and waterproof

      Kenny (United Kingdom)
Used for 3 to 6 months
Bought this for a trip to the north of Scotland as needed a very waterproof jacket, glad to say the water just ran off this even after 4 hours in continuous heavy rain and a back pack on. it was surprisingly breathable also and hopefully come the winter, i can put it over my main warm jacket.
      Waterproof, compact, flexible
    • great looking, leaks during down pours

I bought this jacket Aug 2014. I have been using it only to walk too and from work which is around 10mins each way. Never really had an issue as i was only out in the rain for a short time. Having said this, I never really used it under heavy sustained rain. in the last couple of weeks i have been taking my daughter to cross country meets, one particular weekend there a was a heavy down pour and thought this was great time to test the jacket out. At the end of the day, items I had in my pocket were wet, my tee shirt covering my shoulders, chest and back were soaking under the jacket. I have always been a big fan of Decathlon and its brand and have bought sports items there for myself and kids since the store came to belfast. i have always found Decathlon products dependable and feel very disappointed by this product.
great looking jacket and fits well
      leaks during heavy rain

As a follow up from my review specifying that my old Forclaz 400 waterproof jacket leaked, I got in touch with Decathlon. Customer service, second to none ! My old Forclaz 400 (bought in June 2012) got refunded (a couple of weeks ago, so end of May 2016 !) without questions asked (despite it being purchased in June 2012 !!!!) and after talking at length with a mountaineer specialist I decided to go for the same model again. The New Forclaz 400 model has been improved compared to my 2012 model, and is now much more waterproof, and tested to support sustained heavy rain, to the extent that its waterproof aspect is now very close to matching those dedicated to "serial" hikers / mountaineers. I have discussed it with a few people, hikers and mountaineers, who have all warmly recommended this product to me, including Decathlon's mountain specialist staff. This is what swayed my decision. You look elsewhere, you won't find a product of equal quality at that price. I'd highly recommend this product (although, I haven't yet fully tested it under draconian rainy conditions, but under heavy UK water, it worked !). Note: you can add to this a waterproof spray by Decathlon for £3.99. According to Decathlon's staff, depending on usage, you spray your jacket every 6 months to ensure that its waterproof ability is retained (for instance, if you often wear a backpack) ....
