    Product feature
    1. Design
The ROCKRIDER 540 was designed and created in France, at the B'Twin Village in Lille, by a team of experts and cycling enthusiasts dedicated to designing our mountain bike Sport Touring line. Production took place in different factories in Europe as close to our Decathlon stores as possible. More information available on our website:
    2. Frame
Rockrider CGF Evo (Comfort Geometry Frame) 6061 aluminium frame for 27.5" wheels. Comfortable seating position thanks to raised steering. Seat is 5 times more flexible than a standard frame thanks to a narrow 27.2 mm seat post. Low bottom bracket: helps keep the mountain bike stable in turns, and makes it easier to place foot on the ground. Open steering angle (69.5°): keeps mountain bike stable while riding. Short rear wheel base: bike is easy to turn.
    3. Front suspension
Suntour XCR 100 fork with 100 mm of travel and adjustable stiffness (more/less). Fork lockout to prevent bobbing on faster terrain.
    4. Rear suspension
      No rear suspension.
    5. Drivetrain
Triple-chainring chainset (22/32/44 teeth). Shimano Altus 9-speed rear derailleur. Microshift MS25 front derailleur. Shimano Altus M370 shifters with speed indicators. Shimano HG200 cassette with 9 cogs and 11-34 teeth.
    6. Brakes
Hayes Radar hydraulic disc brakes on the front and rear, with 160 mm discs. OR B'Twin by Tektro hydraulic disc brakes on the front and rear, with 160 mm discs. Hydraulic brakes are more powerful and gradual, requiring much less effort to be applied to the levers.
    7. Handlebar/stem/steering/grips
B'Twin Sport Oversize aluminium handlebar; 660 mm (size S and M), and 680 mm (L and XL). Exclusive B'Twin aluminium stem, 70 mm (size S), 80 mm (sizes M/L), and 90 mm (size XL). Stem can be raised by up to 3 cm, with 5 settings (+ 0 mm, + 7.5 mm, + 15 mm, +22.5 mm, +30 mm). Semi-integrated A-headset headset—better sealed and integrated style. B'Twin Sport handles with grooves, 120 mm long: genuine comfort while riding.
    8. Wheels
Aero Trail Evo aluminium wheels with double-walled rims: lightweight, stiff, and durable. 27.5" diameter: the best balance of comfort and performance. Designed with 28 spokes to reduce weight while still ensuring rigidity and strength.
    9. Tyres
Exclusive B'Twin All Terrain Light 27.5" x 2.0 tyres with a system of lugs specially designed for all terrain use on any type of surface. Lighter tyre sidewalls reduce the effect of rotating mass. Chart with recommended tyre pressure based on rider's weight (indicated on the tyre sidewalls).
    10. Saddle / seat post
Exclusive B'Twin Ergofit Evo saddle offers outstanding comfort thanks to its wider "hammock" shape and good distribution of pressure points regardless of the rider's pelvis width. B'Twin Sport seat post in aluminium for less weight. 27.2 mm diameter provides the seat with a natural flex that's 5 times greater than a classic seat post. 400 mm long, offering a broad adjustment range.
    11. Pedals
Comes with B'Twin Flat Evo resin pedals: sturdy and lightweight. A large pressure surface area for more power while pedalling and improved directional control of your mountain bike. More aggressive pins for better contact between the foot and the pedal.
    12. Weight
13.50 kg in S without pedals. 13.95 kg in M without pedals. 14.05 kg in L without pedals. 14.20 kg in XL without pedals.
    13. Accessories
Frame can take a bottle cage, saddle bag, mud guard, stand, pannier rack.

    • Rockrider 540 in XL

      martin (United Kingdom)
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Had the bike about 4 or 5 weeks. I love it feels good brakes are good ride is very comfortable with wide handlebars and it looks good with the colour scheme! I do about 12 miles a day on it to and from work and the bottom bracket bearing has play in it already! This bike does not get abused nor have I fallen off it yet. It seems the case that cheap parts are used amongst expensive ones to keep the cost of the bike down and make more money on it!!
    • Nice spec, shame about the detail

I bought this bike just starting out in MTB and really looking forward to it. 7 months in and I am incredibly disappointed. I've used the bike regularly and had nothing but problems with the both the gears which stick and the brakes that don't work. The spec on this is great and it looks nice but it's obvious that to keep the cost down Btwin cut corners with cheap components. My wife got a bike for about the same price from Halfords and has had zero problems and she loves it. I maintain both bikes. I've contacted Decathlon previously about this and had no response so felt compelled to leave this review. Also, they don't give you any information on the 12 week safety check up they promise. All in all a bad experience and I won't be buying anything like this again from Decathlon. It was, until recently, my favourite store.
      Good spec and looks ace.
Obvious cut corners on brakes, gears etc.
      Response of the brand
      Hello David,

Sorry to hear about the problems you are still facing with this bike. The 12 week service, you receive an e-mail informing you of when it is due, this will only happen if you scanned your decathlon card on buying the bike. Anywhere between 3-6 months is normally accepted by stores when it comes to having your service done.

In terms of having the bike fixed you will be best to speak with your local store to see when they are available to have a look at the bike for you.

    • Rockrider 540

      giuseppe (United Kingdom)
Used for 3 to 6 months
Purchased a Rockrider 540 in June of this year as is my first mountain bike and although I have nothing to compare with seems good quality.
I seem to have uncovered a problem as to whoever built my bike has threaded the left side crank arm which means in future the bottom bracket cannot be changed without causing some damage.
What is a little upsetting is that now my bike is due for it's first service the bike technician at my Watford store has left and nobody can do it.
This means I have to get a bike shop to service which is extra hassle.
I was impressed with the level of service offered to the cyclist as a company but now feel a little let down with nowhere to go for repairs / servicing etc.
      ride quality and comfort
no technician at my local store

This is my second bike from Decathlon. The first one was a Rockrider 8.2 equipped with 26" wheels, Avid break, SRAM 27 speed. I just loved that bike. It was tough, light, handy and I cycled everywhere and in any condition (even in salty water!!!) and it barely needed any maintenance. Unfortunately it got stolen and I had to replace it quickly because I cycle to work almost every day. So I went to Decathlon and I purchased this 540 B'Twin in March 2016 and, I have to say, I'm not happy at all. I thought I was upgrading my bike but, as a matter of fact, this 540 is lower in any aspect! It's heavier, breaks are slowly letting me down, The Shimano 27 is getting stuck and it's not reliable, the fork does the job but I can feel on my wrists that it doesn't work as good as the one I had on the other bike. Also the bike is basically new if you look at it!! Ever since I bought it I haven't had the chance to do some serious off-road and yet it's ageing super fast. I wish I never bought it and I'll definitely try to get rid of it as soon as I can!!!
      27.5" wheels
      poor breaks, gear, fork
      Response of the brand
      Dear Sir,
Your are 100% correct, the Rockrider 540 (RRP £340) is nothing like the Rockirder 8.2. They will feel very different and the materials used will be of a lower grade for sure. The equivalent in the range to the 8.2 would be the Rafal 700 whith an RRP of £750.
If you are looking for a similar bike with similar levels or equipment and the same engaging drive then I would certainly suggest you change the bike.
If you are not happy with your bike and it is not performing as you expected, we have a 365 day return policy and you can return it to your local store if you wish.
There is an all new Rockrider 900 coming out in October which may be of interest (£700) and comes with a fully up to date groupset and a very dynamic and engaging frame. This is the link to the product preview page so you can have a look:
